About
Often referencing Marxist ideas, Alice Diamond is fixed on the relationship between the environmental downfall brought by the Anthropocene and the working class. She tackles the connection between capitalism and the climate crisis in a contemporary setting whilst paying homage to the past.
Diamond manifests this fascination in the form of numerous artworks- from acrylic landscape paintings to mixed-media installations, and film. Her work investigates the fragmentation of land, showing idealised landscape obscured by intrusive compositions of industrial scenes. She highlights the distance society must go to prevent the ecological collapse inflicted upon us by capitalism.
From start to finish Diamond gathers material directly from the source, whether it is a run-down canal tow path or scenic abandoned quarries. She collects images, sounds, and experiences, and later uses them to produce further developed pieces both digitally and by hand. This work is done in the hopes that it will function as an ‘alternative protest’ method in raising awareness of the climate crisis and intrinsic suffering of the common person by striking an emotional chord through more immersive viewing techniques of installation artwork.
